River of Love

John Joseph Ray and Ozark Friends

This is the first CD in my new collection of music, a set of original and borrowed folk songs about love, the unseen, honoring being alive, air travel, angels, mental gymnastics, cell phones, fathers, and more.

I sat down and listened to the whole CD from start to finish and it is absolutely lovely. You did a great job with the sequencing of songs. Very engaging. The sound and mixes are right on the money. I have so many favorites. I suppose at the moment, On and On, Still Here, and River of Love are favorites. So many great songs. The art work is excellent as well. Looks like Steel Creek?
    Congratulations! You did it!

  2. Leslie

John we love the CD! It’s just marvelous, and your voice sounds fantastic, and all the instruments and harmonies too. Congratulations! River of Love (the song) is SUCH a favorite for both me and Geoff. We both had it ‘stuck’ in our heads (pleasantly!) for a long time. More specifics later, but wanted to say that much.

John I am so enjoying your CD . I love your rendition of Flying Low. And the Wings of an Angel line about not having to wear a mask case of art preceding life. Seriously the harmonies are beautiful. Build It N They Will Come lyrics and arrangement is kind of a subtle but powerful epic of a song. NO NEED TO QUESTION WHY JUST FIND THE HARMONY. You certainly found the harmony. I mean, what a tribute this album is to love and music. Thank you. Beautiful. Oh and Still Here: LOVE IS SO MUCH STRONGER THAN FEAR!! The cello on that is gorgeous.

  4. Eric

We listened to the album several times over the weekend. Really good! Kids liked it too. =)

  5. Bruce

Hey, very nice CD!!!. The harmonies add a lot! I like hearing Nick’s songs too. Will you be posting lyrics anywhere?

  6. Dawn

GREAT instrumentals, backup studio musicians. The quality of the CD is very smooth, with a professional studio (what I think of as “full” sound.) I listened to the CD first at home, then in the car on my way to and back home from Rogers, then during a couple local trips. As I suspected, the music “grows on” me. I like the CD. Good mixture of cuts and order for variety.

    Specific impressions:
    – I Want to Be There: easy loping rhythm, soothing. Lyrics are sweet. I giggled when you sang, “I want to rub your back and your feet.” Would that be the massage therapist in you?
    – River of Love: Instrumental, especially guitar has a beautiful sound. Song is easy-flowing.
    – Flyin’ Low Tonight and Hang Up Your Phone: Both great Nick Masullo songs, well-done. Humor in both; pithy, punchy, and the second is a great funny rant. Enjoyed both.
    – Just a Sign: nice mandolin; especially liked the “fun” tune, lyrics and vocals in this one.
    – Wings of an Angel: liked best the slide guitar, and Carolyn’s vibrato on held notes in backup vocals was really nice.
    – Still Here: Cello and mandolin good background combo.
    – Build it and They Will Come: Good harmony and mix.
    – Kilkelly – good solid traditional Celtic story, instrumentation, and vocals. Especially liked mandolin and flute.

GREAT JOB. Cover design is very professional, and the mix/arrangements very impressive!

What a wonderful song collection! I found the tunes very moving, beautifully written, and soul felt. The use of humor and the mix of tone and intent were skillfully done. You’ve created a true gem. Love the art work too!
